What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a tooth straightening system that can correct misalignment issues and malocclusions (bite problems). Conventional braces were once the only option to straighten crooked teeth. While effective, braces have metal or ceramic brackets and wires that are visibly apparent when you speak or smile.

Invisalign uses clear aligners to correct misalignment and improve uneven bites. Clear aligners are transparent and removable. They mold to the shape of your teeth for a snug fit that hugs your teeth, making them nearly invisible. With Invisalign, you can smile confidently, speak comfortably, and eat your favorite foods.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign places gradual force to shift your teeth into position, just like braces. While braces shift all of your teeth at once, Invisalign can target a few at a time for a more comfortable and customizable treatment.

Every 2-3 weeks, you receive a new set of aligners that typically target different teeth. Invisalign allows the team to tailor your treatment to your specific needs and goals.

Invisalign targets many of the same orthodontic concerns as braces, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gapped teeth

Invisalign shifts your teeth into a more attractive position without the drawbacks of braces. You can remove your aligners to brush, floss, and eat without getting food stuck in your teeth. Most patients find that Invisalign is smoother and more comfortable than traditional braces.

What can I expect from Invisalign?

Invisalign uses an entirely digital planning process to design your individualized treatment. First, the team at DNTL Studio discusses your goals and orthodontic concerns. Next, they take highly accurate digital impressions of your teeth with the iTero® intraoral scanner, eliminating the need for messy impressions.

The team uploads your impressions into Invisalign’s proprietary software, which allows them to design your treatment plan step by step. Finally, they send your plan to the Invisalign lab to create your custom-made clear aligners.

The team guides you through how to use Invisalign. Most patients must wear their aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink, and brush and floss.

You receive multiple sets of aligners, so you don’t have to visit the office each time you need to swap out your tray, although your dentist will want to check on your progress every two or three months.

DNTL Studio strives to improve the patient experience. We use the revolutionary iTero scanner; the industry standard for intraoral scanning. The scanner produces the most detailed 3D scans of any scanner without the discomfort of traditional impression methods.
